WATCH: Church members hold first service after fire destroys baptist church


SINCE THE FIRE. REPORTER: THE LEBANON COMMUNITY CONTINUING TO COME TOGETHER, OFFERING A TEMPORARY PLACE OF WORSHIP FOR THOSE WHO’S HISTORIC CHURCH WAS LEFT IN PIECES FOLLOWING A MASSIVE FIRE.>>EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE OK, GOD IS STILL WITH US YOU KNOW. REPORTER: MEMBERS OF THE FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH ARE IN GOOD SPIRITS AS THEY GATHER FOR THEIR FIRST SERVICE SINCE WEDNESDAY’S FIRE, MEETING JUST A BLOCK AWAY AT THE MASONIC HALL. THE CROWD, MUCH LARGER THAN THEY’VE SEEN IN MONTHS.>>SO IT WAS GOOD TO SEE PEOPLE THAT HAVEN’T COME FOR AWHILE COME TOGETHER AND PEOPLE FROM THE CATHOLIC CHURCH CAME OVER TO JUST GREET US AND SAY HOW SORRY THEY WERE. REPORTER: THE MASONIC HALL HAS OFFERED THEIR SPACE FOR AS LONG AS THEY NEED IT AND OTHER AREA CHURCHES ARE OPENING THEIR DOORS. THE LOSS OF A CHURCH TO FIRE IS ALL TOO FAMILIAR FOR THIS TIGHTKNIT COMMUNITY. MORE THAN 20 YEARS AGO, THE METHODIST CHURCH ACROSS THE STREET BURNED DOWN AND HAS SINCE BEEN REBUILT. THE BELL FROM THE ORIGINAL CHURCH STANDS OUTSIDE.>>IT WAS CRACKED FROM THE HEAT AND OTHER THAN THAT, THAT’S ALL THAT’S LEFT IS A FEW PIECES OF GLASS.>>I THINK THE MOST DEVASTATING PART FOR BOTH CHURCHES IS THE BEAUTIFUL STAINED GLASS WINDOWS THAT WERE IN PLACE. REPORTER: THE BELL FROM FIRST BAPTIST WAS REMOVED SATURDAY AND WILL BE STORED UNTIL THE CHURCH DECIDES WHAT THEY’LL DO WITH IT WHEN THEY REBUILD, AT LEAST ONE STAINED GLASS WINDOW APPEARS TO BE INTACT. CHURCH MEMBERS ARE HOPEFUL, AS INVESTIGATORS ARE FINALLY ABLE TO SAFELY GET INSIDE THE BUILDING TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE.>>IT WAS JUST A GOOD FEELING IN CHURCH, EVEN THOUGH WE’RE NOT IN OUR CHURCH BUT IT WAS NICE.
