The Greatest Surprise: Jesus’ Second Coming

Ring ding ding ding ding d-ding d-ding d-d-ding ding. I hate that song, “What Does the Fox Say?” It is so old. It gets stuck in my head like the worst of ear worms. It’s ridiculous, and I hate it. Oh, sorry, I saw a fox last night. I’m like, “Oh, sweet, a fox!” and then that song got in my head. My name is Father Mike Schmitz, and this
is Ascension Presents. So, I was watching on social media the other
day this fantastic practical joke video where there are these two guys, and one
was dressed in all white, kinda like a butcher’s uniform, and this
apron, and he had this big bushy beard, and this crazy hair with a chainsaw, and his buddy,
his accomplice in this practical joke, um, had no legs, and he had only one arm, and
so he dressed up—they dressed up that guy. They kind of did some makeup stuff, so it
looked like he was—like he had just gotten his legs and arm cut off. He’s bloody and
I’m so sorry this is pretty gross. Um, but they were in a parking garage, and
people pull into the parking spot, and they get out of the car, and then he’d pick
up the chainsaw, and this guy would try to be crawling away looking like he
just got his body hurt you know, um, and it was so hilarious. Like the reaction of people, just, I was
laughing out loud. I watched. I literally LOL’d. I was thinking about this, and I love—I love
watching people get surprised. I mean I love—it’s hilarious. Those videos are hilarious. I love watching people get surprised. I hate … I hate being surprised. Like it is so un—right?—it’s so
uncomfortable. And I was thinking about this, and thinking there’s this Bible connection there. In the Bible, Jesus, St. Paul later on, the Scripture, talks about how the day of the Lord is going to come. The day of the Lord is going to come
like a thief in the night. St. Paul, in his first letter to the Thessalonians
—I’m in chapter 5— he talks about this. He says, listen. Live in the light not in the dark, because like a thief in
the night the Lord is going to come like labor pains upon a woman, boom, it’s gonna come out of nowhere, and
you gotta be awake. You gotta be aware. It’s gonna be a surprise. You know, there’s a crazy thing: What’s
going to make the difference between that being a good surprise and a bad
surprise? There’s good surprises, and there’s bad surprises. What’s going to make the difference between
the Lord’s coming being a great thing, “Finally! This is incredible!” or a terrible thing, something like someone surprising you in
a parking garage with a chainsaw? I think it’s this: I was thinking about those videos, and if someone had told the people pulling in the parking garage, “When you get there, there are going to be some people who are there playing a practical joke.” That would kill the surprise, right? That
would kill the bad part of the surprise. It might still be gross and all that kind
of stuff, but it wouldn’t be as disturbing. The people won’t be as disturbed as they
actually were in the video. Why? Because they were expecting it.
Because they were living, they were walking into the whole thing, like, we know, this is what’s going to happen. I think one of the things that preserves Christians
from being terribly surprised, the bad surprise when it comes to
Christ’s coming, when it comes to Christ’s return, is not
just living like we expect it. Think of something deeper. It’s living
with him now. If there’s anything that will take the
Lord’s coming from a bad surprise to make it an
incredibly good surprise, it’s this reality: Do I live every day as
if Jesus truly is with me already? Because Christ’s presence is truly here. I mean, if you have the Holy Spirit, if you’ve been baptized, you have the Holy Spirit within you, and when the Holy—where one person of the Trinity—is, the other two persons of the Trinity are
always present as well, and if you have the Holy Spirit with you, then
the Father and the Son are also with you. Do we live in the presence of Jesus?
This is just the big question. And if we live in the presence of Jesus, if we live as if it’s truly true, and it really is, and he’s with us, then when he comes in glory, yes, that is a shock, probably. That is a
new thing that will be astounding, but it won’t be a bad surprise, because I’m living, as St. Paul said, I’m living in the light. I’m living in the day, and I’m sober. I’m
living in his presence. The last thing St. Paul says here when
it comes to this coming of the Lord, a way to prepare, is in, again, chapter 5, after he talked about that Jesus is going
to come, he says the word, “therefore,” and, Bible tip for you, whenever you see the word, “therefore,” you always need to ask the question, “Oh! What is that there for?” See what I did there?
What’s it there for? After saying Jesus is going to come in a surprise, “Therefore, encourage one another and
build one another up as indeed you do.” So it’s one thing to live in the presence of
Jesus, but there’s also another thing: the people around me. Do I actually, intentionally, build them up?
Do I encourage them? St. Paul says, if you’re going to live sober and alert, ready for the coming of our Lord because
you live in his presence now, how do you treat the people around you? Do you tear them down? Do you simply leave them alone? Or do you build them up? Here’s my invitation today: to live in the presence of Jesus Christ, but also to see him in others to such a degree
that you are a source of encouragement, that you, your words and your actions,
your dealings with them, actually build them up. I think if we do this, I’m sure if we do this, when Christ does come in his glory at the end
of time, which might be this afternoon, it will be a great surprise, and nothing like
a bad surprise. From all of us here at Ascension Presents,
my name is Father Mike. God bless.

  1. I'm not sure how I came upon his channel. He sure doesn't seem like a priest I don't mean that in a bad way. He sure is on fire for Jesus he has plenty of energy wow sometimes I have to go back and listen. I know nothing about him but I think he's pretty dang good. I'm not Catholic but that's OK with me I just know I'm a Christian .I will have to keep checking his teachings my brain can actually get where he's coming from.

  2. The secret to knowing when the second coming Christ will come he will bring back the Passover not something called or made up communion

  3. This topic always scared me in the Church because either 1. I won't be ready when he comes or 2. my loved ones won't be ready

  4. Hello father mike! Big big fan. And I have a question… what do you think about the "Neocatecumenal Way" I live in Dallas Tx and have attended my Catholic Church for 6 years now. And up until now I've had a little of second thoughts. But through prayer I am pushing through.

  5. C.S.Lewis: "God is going to invade, all right, but what is the good of saying you are on His side then, when you see the whole natural universe melting away like a dream and something else–something it never entered your head to conceive–comes crashing in; something so beautiful to some of us and so terrible to others that none of us will have any choices left? For this time it will be God without disguise; something so overwhelming that it will strike either irresistible love or irresistible horror into every creature. It will be too late then to choose your side… That will not be the time for choosing: it will be the time when we discover which side we really have chosen, whether we realized it before or not."
Father Mike, thank you, thank you for the sobering reminder..

  6. I'm pretty sure that the second coming is Andromeda colliding with the milky way… But if we survive that then it'll be when the sun explodes. That's assuming we don't have WWIII by then.

  7. Thank you Father Mike for your videos.I always find them enlightening. Listening to your talks seems to recenter me to Jesus often when I need it the most.

  8. try reading scripture, Revelation. Or do you not teach from that? You are really not a priest, right? 1000 year tribulation will be the greatest time on Earth

  9. I grew up Southern Baptist. You are a great preacher. I've never heard a Priest teach like you do. If it weren't for your clothing I would have thought you were a Pastor. 😊😇

  10. Well there is this guy in Korea named Man Hee Lee (The promised pastor) and he said Jesus has already came so God's spirit and Jesus' spirit came to him so he saw the fulfillment of the entire book of revelation and only he has the word. There are over 2.2 billion people with this church from around the world, he said heaven is not complete yet so we still live in a world like this. The church is Shincheonji (The Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony). MT.Zion is in Korea and u can only get salvation through him. I was a member but I left because the scriptures weren't right. I was in the John tribe.

  11. My wife and I are protestants. For a couple of years, we attended the services of one particular protestant congregation about twice a month on average. While we were doing that, one of the young men who had also been attending fell off a bridge he was helping to construct or repair (I don't remember which), landed on his head and died a day or two later from his injuries.

His wife had also been attending those same protestant services so she asked that that protestant pastor make conduct the funeral. The young man's family, however, were all adherents of the Roman Church. So the protestant pastor asked their priest to have some small part in the funeral in the protestant church building AND to conduct the graveside service.

At the graveside, the priest said that he had never met the young man while he was alive but, from what he had heard about him, he expected to meet him in the resurrection.

As my wife and I were walking back to our car after the graveside service, we overheard one of the members of the (ostensibly?) protestant congregation say to another, "Resurrection! Resurrection! What kind of comfort is that? Resurrection?"

Anyone please feel free to comment.

P.S. I know this is not on topic but pretending to have just mangled someone with a chainsaw is a good way for someone to get himself shot!

  12. Thank you Father Mike for all of your videos! I really enjoy watching them and appreciate the help.

  13. Thank you for responding back! By the way, I love your Christmas sweater. I was having a not so good day and it made me smile.

  14. But you are dressed in the uniform of the cult that promotes pedophilia activity around the world. You wear this uniform in support of your colleagues who raped and tortured babies and children. You talk of this mythical creature you call jesus and worship this creature who in your thinking watches on as children are raped today .

Check this link out idiot. To see how many of your colleagues love their job and how you , take so much pride in being one of them. You are a disgusting immorral pig 👎👎👎

  16. Father Mike, I try and motivate people and try and get them to believe, but the non-believers, including other Christians who are not Catholic, cuss you out, call you stupid, you name it, they call you that. So what else can I do? I know God will recognize that I tried, but it's difficult to change a persons way of thinking, Their hatred towards Christians, Catholics, etc. etc, I guess the only thing left is to pray for the non-believers.

  17. I look forward to the coming of Jesus Christ our lord&savior, what an amazingly beautiful day it will be,I'm excited &ready to praise 🙏🏼him in all his glory! Thanks Father Mike for another beautifully said lesson, you really make my day & have been an inspiration in my spiritual life,& thx for making Catholicism readily available & understandable to all. God bless you&keep you well.

  18. What does Father Mike mean by building others up? One of my main concerns is not that I won’t be saved but that the people I care about won’t be saved. I want nothing more than to lead them on the right path but I have absolutely no idea how to introduce them to God because I feel like no matter how gentle you are at approaching the subject, most people are quick to turn away. What I do for now Is give people advice according to what would be pleasing to God. For example one of my girlfriends was talking to me about how she was debating on having sex with her boyfriend. I was able to convince her that it was best to wait until marriage for several reasons and she agreed and decided she will wait but I never brought God into the subject because I felt like if I did, she wouldn’t have listened but I would’ve have loved to use that as an opportunity to introduce her to God but I simply didn’t know how. This is something I struggle with a lot. Someone else in the comments talked about a quote saying to live in a way that people who know you will come to know God but I just don’t know how to achieve that and I would love to. Anyone got any advice?

  19. Second coming of Jesus , It's like when we got the school exam score when we were kids.
When we get bad result, we worry when parents come home.
Conversely, when we get good result, we can not wait for parents to come home.

  20. Why does the rcc not teach about the tribulation the rapture of the church and how 2 know u r saved?
When they do have bible study they intertwine rcc heretical doctrines & teaching

  21. Jesus, our Savior did not come identified as a religion. He came to save us and preach God's word. Jesus is not baptist, catholic, and other forms of religion. He is the Son of God. It is good to be a member of a church that preaches the true Bible Doctrine of God. A church membership does not get you into eternity with God. Your personal decision in Christ and having a relationship with God. Anyone knowing God's word and is a believer of Jesus will not be afraid of death. They will always be ready for the Rapture of the Church or if God's calls them home through death. There is no fear in death because we know in Heaven we live in eternity and in a glorified body without sin. Be alert and watch for Jesus return. Do not be apart of the world or lukewarm members who want to be apart of what the world has to offer. Live to God's glory, in His Word and ready for God to take us home.

  22. Father…Please pray for my 21 year old son…he took his own life several days ago. He suffered depression. …

  23. God bless, I have you all in my prayers ! Hopefully you guys can please pray for my friends, family, and my negative thoughts 🕊❤️🙏🏽 Thanks and hope you all have a great day/night feel free to message me if you guys ever want to talk remember you are not alone

  24. surprises nope do not like so I fall in the trap can you give me a time frame deadline..gotta live right always in His truth and love..that is what matters

  25. Thank you for this piece especially. I was a child during the Cuban Missile Crisis and I've associated that memory with any discussion of the Second Coming. At the time I didn't imagine Jesus walking out of a mushroom cloud. I just saw devastation and the deaths of everyone I loved. I needed to hear your piece to remind me of the Trinity's presence in the now.

  27. WARNING:

    Eunuchs are:

Brothers of Christ – Sisters of Christ

2 Thessalonians 2:3 Don't let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction.

4He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God’s temple, proclaiming himself to be God.

Jesus is my father – Heavenly Jerusalem is my mother.

Matthew 10:24 The student is not above the teacher, nor a servant above his master.

Romans 14:9 For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living.

  28. I am a proud Catholic 🙌🏻 love your channel😎🎸. I want to share something funny, it made me feel bad for laughing, here it goes. I saw a bumper sticker on a car that said “Jesus is coming soon…LOOK BUSY” 🤣🤔 I said a prayer for the driver to see the light.

  29. The judgement day will come in one way or another, remember you have only one life to live. In some ways the Buddhist and Hindu religions are the most insidiuous as they encourage a belief in reincarnation, a second chance. There is no second chance. This is it mate – do it right or be damned for all time. This isn't about religion it's about logic. Oh, I won't care, you say, when I'm dead; but your deeds, your thoughts, your love and your hate, will stand out in eternity forever

  30. I enjoy hearing Father Mike preach, and I am Protestant. I happened upon him on Pinterest and have listened to several of his sermons. Whether we are Protestant or Catholic, it is about serving Christ.

  31. Jesus is the fake character of the fake bible that Roman Empire/Roman Catholic and the Greeks made. Jesus is the same as Zues of Greek mythology —> J-Zues. Christ is a greek word for a jewish word messiah. It is not a surname. No Jesus Christ existed in Israel's entire history because it is a greek name.
Israel is not a christian country because Israel does not follow Roman/Greek religion. The religion of Israel is Judaism.
New Testament did not happen. It is fiction. No one died on the cross and G-d Almighty's firstborn is Israel, the country, not JC Exodus 4:22. Rome stole the Jewish Torah and turned it into the Old Testament. New Testament is not a sequel of the Old Testament. New Testament is the modernized Greek mythology.

  32. Thank you Father Mike. I worry about people who do those "pranks" because there are good people who are licensed concealed carry permits who would stop someone with a chainsaw in a parking garage. I pray that it never happens.

  33. Then look into, 'dajjal'.. The antichrist… There is a reason of his second comings.. We should be aware of this dajjal, because in end times, people tend not to talk much about it.

  34. If He is inside you then He sees what you see, reads what you read, thinks what you think, feels how you feel, thirsts how you thirst, hopes to see you as you hope to see Him, and all because we will be utterly rendered speechless from the magnificence and heavenly/spiritual glory of our Lord, to see He who has just always been there eternally, beyond time's grasp back and forevermore, just to see this I believe even if we couldn't understand that simple true fact, we will be eternally content to have deserved, received and felt His love, forgiveness and redemption through His son, our Lord Jesus Christ.

  35. Well some people don't know when something is a joke or not, like me. So jokes aren't good on me. My kids bought a haunted man that crawled on the ground with a remote control. Yikes.

  36. When my dad's parents came here in 1910 from Foggia, Italy, they were Asked to walk on the other side of the road. Oh no. They have more pride then to have nationwide movements against it like Martin Luther King taught. Moreover, it is perversion of children.

  37. People have been waiting for the "Second Coming" for over 2000 years now while they have Christ available every day in Eucharist 🙂 Isnt that funny you're looking for glasses while wearing them on your head ?

Stop thinking about WHEN it is going to happen.
It may take another 2 000 years or 2 Mln years. We dont know when.
    Think about today, not tomorrow.

  38. Ascension Presents & father Mike Schmitz, good job. New England's
Patriots have a coach Bill Belichick; therefore, the leaders of our
planet-Presidents, Kings, Prime Ministers-need a good coach. Then, conflicts
and wars will stop; there would be less plane crashes, hurricanes, floods &
earthquakes. Yes, I have my Bachelor’s degree in Coaching Judo from LSU &
another Bachelor’s degree in Banking from Saint Petersburg College. Also, I was
born on Christmas. This is what I came up with. Ascension Presents & father
Mike Schmitz, let’s work on the Second Coming of Jesus Christ together.

  39. I get on here to criticize Christianity and I always get lost in Mikes videos….. As an atheist I find it hard to criticize preacher Mike…

  40. Father Mike, I live in Italy, where 90% if people are Catholic and I'm 43. You are the first priest who's talked about the second coming of Jesus. Btw, if you are into bible prophecy and into Israely news, you will agree it's veeery near!

  41. Father Mike, I'm just so unsure how much I should believe on Jesus to be saved. I can't make a certain in myself that I will be saved.

  42. Frankly. I think the end of the Bible sounds terrifying no matter who you are. Being one of the beheaded who rules with Christ 1000 years doesn't sound too fun. It seems like if you are just looking for an easy path there isn't one.

  43. Epefanio and sister believers dont run a ministry in evil sin and the
syphilis shut down the church end of times ministry

  44. Just recently started watching your videos. Ash Wednesday as a matter of fact. Awesome stuff!! Anything that helps me understand the Catholic faith the way you explain it is a gift to me. Can't stop watching!! Thank you Fr. Mike! 🙏🙏 God bless!

  45. Go in peace, and live your life to love and serve The Lord. That's all you need to know. You do need to know the Gospels so you know what God wants of you. If it isn't in Matthew, Mark, Luke or John, it's just not that important for your salvation. You're Christian not Jewish. The 10 commandments are the only carry overs from Judaism. You're Christian, not a worshiper of Paul. Paul is horribly misunderstood. Frequently misquoted or quoted out of context. If someone quotes Paul at you, and the quote seems to contradict the words of Jesus, that the quote is out of context. Satan uses Paul to confuse and lead Christians away from the teaching of Jesus. I'm not saying that Paul is evil, of course. He just seems to be a frequently used tool of division and confusion within the Church. Protestantism, for example, is heavily based on the words of Paul. Go to most Protestant churches, you hear more about Paul than Jesus. Check it out for yourself.

  46. What even was the beginning of this video? "What does the fox say?" Haha! But great video nonetheless!

  47. When Jesus comes back in his glory
There's going to be a lot of crying, begging, and apologizing
    Just from me
And i really didn't do anything
I think theres only a hand full of people smiling
I'm not looking forward to that day
Most of the people who think there going to be smiling

  48. how could the Lord's coming ever possibly be a terrible thing for anyone?

  49. I always thought since i was a child…that Jesus will come in this generation..may all we be ready!

  50. And you're a Catholic??? The church that prosecuted the Saints of God, that wrote their own words in the bible, that killed many children and sacrificed them??, the church that killed and murdered many people????? NICE THAT YOU TALK ABOUT THE RETURN OF CHRIST, AND IT WOULD BE BETTER, IF YOU TAKE THAT PRIEST CLOTHING OUT. LOL. It makes you look like a liara and a deceiver and people who know the truth know you to be a nice smooth talker.

  51. Ok no thank you! I never heard that song before. Now it's in my head…I looked it up. Grr. (Which is what the tiger says)

  52. Another phenomenal insight, so simply put, may appear under-rated however if not lost on us….we can set the world on fire with our words of encouragements and endless support in the pursuit of the kingdom of God!!

  53. Funny until someone pulls out a gun and shoots the guy with the chainsaw. Boy, would he be surprised. No. I don't think that kind of stuff is funny.

  54. Its close at hand. And yes he will come like a thief in the night and generate intense fear to all who are evil, and wicked. But to the good people it will not be a surprise, because they already know him. They already love him. They will feel his intense love and power. The evil ones will shake to their very core and will wish that the very rocks around them will fall upon them.

  55. When JESUS returns he will separate the goats from the sheep.
The goats are the ones who pray to statues,to other human beings and to blasphemers who mock GOD with their rituals.
The sheep are those saved by the blood of JESUS,without any rituals or gimmicks.

  56. Sorry, no, he's not coming back. He was a failed doomsday prophet and didn't rise from the dead. "For the Son of man is to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay every man for what he has done. TRULY I SAY TO YOU, THERE ARE SOME STANDING HERE who will not taste death before they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom" (Matthew 16:27-28) Now, were the 'some standing here" real people? Obviously. But did they see him return in his kingdom with his angels in the glory of his father? Unarguably, they did not. The 2nd coming was not only supposed to be "the greatest surprise" (completely unexpected), it was also supposed to be IMMINENT, i.e., it was supposed to happen during the time of his contemporaries, not thousands of years in the future. Not at all surprised you spoke only of the 2nd coming being unexpected, but said nothing about its being imminent.

"The Kingdom of God is near . . ." (Mark 1:14-15; also Matthew 4:17).

"Truly I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his Kingdom" (Matthew 16:28; also Mark 9:1 and 13:30; also Luke 9:26-27 and 21:32)…

"Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away till all these things take place" (Matthew 24:34).

" . . .brethren, the appointed time has grown very short . . . the form of this world is passing away" (1 Corinthians 7:29, 31).

    " . . . the end of the ages has come" (1 Corinthians 10:11).

    " . . . in these last days [God] has spoken to us by a Son . . ." (Hebrews 1:1-2).

" . . . he has appeared once for all at the end of the age to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself" (Hebrews 9:26).

" . . . you see the Day is drawing near" (Hebrews 10:25).

" . . . the coming of the Lord is near . . . the Judge is standing right at the door" (James 5:8,9).

"The end of all things is at hand" (1 Peter 1:7).

"Children, it is the last hour . . . it is the last hour" (1 John 2:18).

    " . . . the time is near" (Revelation 1:3).

    " . . . behold, I am coming quickly . . . the time is near . . I am coming quickly . . .Yes, I am coming quickly" (Revelation 22:7, 10, 12, 20).
