St. Bernard Parish president’s race set for run-off


REPORTING FROM METAIRIE, I’M ANDY CUNNINGHAM, WDSU NEWS. LATONYA: IN ST. BERNARD PARISH, VOTERS THERE ALSO WENT TO THE POLLS TO VOTE FOR A NEW PARISH PRESIDENT, AND THIS MORNING, THAT SEARCH CONTINUES. WDSU REPORTER HEATH ALLEN TELLS US ABOUT THE TWO MEN VOTERS CHOSE TO GO HEAD-TO-HEAD IN THE RUNOFFS. HEATH: THERE WILL BE A NEW PARISH PRESIDENT HERE IN ST. RUNNING FIRST, FORMER COUNCILMEMBER WAYNE LANDRY, WHO HAD 32% OF THE VOTE. YOU MIGHT EXPECT A PRETTY HAPPY CAMPAIGN HEADQUARTERS AS THE ANNOUNCEMENTS WERE MADE. I THINK THE PARISH IS READY FOR SOMEBODY WHO IS QUALIFIED TO COME IN AND TAKE OVER THE PARISH AND BRING IT AND PUT IT ON THE RIGHT TRACK. WE HAVE THE EXPERTISE TO DO THAT. THAT IS WHAT I DO. I THINK THE PEOPLE RECOGNIZE THAT. HEATH: RUNNING SECOND BUT CERTAINLY IN THE RUNOFF IN A WHOLE NEW RACE IS COUNCILMEMBER DIANE MCINNES. ANOTHER EXUBERANT CAMPAIGN HEADQUARTERS.
