Lo-Lo’s Chicken and Waffles with owner Larry White

I was born into a restaurant working for my
grandmother and my father. This is what I do, it’s in my blood. I’m Larry White, owner and founder of Lo-Lo’s
Chicken and Waffles. What makes Lo-Lo’s a Phoenix restaurant is
because we started here. My roots are here. This is our foundation. Phoenix will always be home. Growing up in Grandma’s restaurant was fun. It was my playground. I remember being a youngster wanting to play
army man with my father, and my father would literally put a pot on my head and say “here,
now you’re a soldier.” Cooking came naturally; I used to cook chicken
and waffles for friends and family at home, and they said, “man, you got something here,
maybe you should open up a restaurant.” This is where I was raised. I know the streets, I know them like the back
of my hand. There are tons of neighborhoods and pockets
here in Phoenix that’s loaded with soul. It’s all about community. Phoenix is a big community. We have employees here, they started just
walking around the restaurant as kids, and now they’re here working. Phoenix gets the soul from right here in our
kitchen. We make food brought to you and created from
the soul, made with love. Anything that we do, it’s going to originate right
here. No matter how big Lo-Lo’s Chicken and Waffles
may get, Phoenix is home to me now, and will always be home to me.
