It Is So | Official Acoustic Guitar Tutorial | At Midnight | Elevation Worship

hi everyone my name is David Liotta I’m
a guitar player for Elevation Worship I’m going to show you how to play the
song it is so I’ll show you the chords and break it down section by section so
the first section is the intro we’re in the key of D and I have my capo on the
2nd fret and I’m using C shapes the first chord is an F shaped chord what
I’m doing is I roll my thumb over the top of the neck to catch that fret on
the e-string next I have my third finger on this fret on the a-string my fourth
finger right here on the D string I leave the g string open and I put my
first finger on the first fret of the B string and then with my first finger and
mute that high E string so when I’m strumming it doesn’t ring out so
together it sounds like that and then from there I just go to this
basic C chord shape here and for the intro it’s just back and
forth between those two chords so you played that two times through and then
you go to the verse which starts with the same chords it starts with that F
shaped chord and when it goes to that c-shape corner
back to the F-shape and back to the C- shape after that changes a little bit we
go to this F over A shape so how I play that is leave the e string
muted don’t play that do the open a string do this fret on the D string with
my third finger my second finger right here on the g string my first finger
right here on the B string sans before I meet that high E string so it’s not
altogether it should sound like that next chord is a G over B shape I played a
little bit differently than than usual though how I play it is I’m really only
using one finger I put my second finger right here on the a string again leaving
that E string muted not playing it and then I let I play the open D G and B
strings and with my pinky I kind of hover it about above that E string I
mute it and so really I’m only playing the middle the the middle four strings
the a D G and B like this and then back to that C shape and then
after that we go to the F shape and then from there we go to this C over E shape
really simple all it is is you just play that same C shape but you add that low E
string and then from there we go to that F shape and then from there it’s a you
start with a G suspended shape so how I play that is I have my third finger on
the E string I’m kind of rolling it back a little bit and I’m mute the a string
then I play the open D open G I have my first finger on the first fret of the B
string I have my pinky on the high E string and then after that same shape just take
off that pointer finger like that cool so I’ll play the intro and the verse so
you can hear what it sounds like There is a promise that points beyond my failure There is a still voice to silene my fears even the worst of my mistakes Are miracles in the making are miracles in the making one other thing to note about this song
pretty much for the entire song I’m doing kind of just a very straight
showing pattern like this but it so pretty much just hitting the
hitting all the strings every time I strum up and down and that’s for most
of the song except for the end and we’ll talk about that later so the next
section of the song is the chorus and so the chorus starts with that same F shape and then we go to that C shape and then
back to the F shape and then an A minor shape and then a G shape that G shape again
it’s kind of a little bit different than a typical G how I play it is again I
mute that A string and leave my second finger off this time you don’t do the
suspended the suspended you leave that first finger off so really it’s
just your third finger on the low E string and your pinky on the high E
string like this and then you go back to the C chord and
for the chorus you just put that same progression twice so here’s what that
sounds like By Your stripes I am healed with one touch I am made whole You have spoken and I know that it is so In the storm You are peace and Your love won’t let me go You have spoken and I know that it is so so the next section is verse two and
those are the same chords as the first verse section after that is chorus 2 –
there’s also the same chords chorus one after that we go to the bridge
instrumental and these chords are pretty much the same throughout the whole
bridge so I’ll walk through those we start with that same F shape and then we go quickly to a G shape it’s
kind of a passing it’s actually that same shape as before that G suspended
with your third finger on the low e pointer finger on the B and pinky on the
high E and then we go to an A minor chord
you hold that and then I go back to the F shape back to that G suspended A
minor and then this time back to the G
suspended and that that progression loops for pretty much the entire bridge
the only time the chords changed for the bridge is during the bridge outro so for
that section it’s almost exactly the same there’s only a couple chords that
are different so you start again with the F shape to the G suspended shape A
minor and one chord that’s different instead of just going straight back to
that F after the A minor you go to the C chord and then you go back to the F back
to the G suspended to the A minor to the G suspended and then you go back
to the F and then as kind of like a segway back to the chorus these a couple
of different chords you go back to that c / e shape that we played earlier and
then you close out the bridge with that G shape without the pointer finger so
just the third finger and the pinky so what we’ll do is well play the bridge
intro and then we’ll do one singing bridge and then I’ll play the bridge
outro Your word is settled in Heaven it will be done Father let it be done Yours is the kingdom forever Your will be done let it be done so for the last chorus we’ll actually
switch to finger picking same chord shapes just play it a little bit
differently so what you do is that with that F chord with my right hand I start
with my thumb on the E string and then I pull it down to the A string and then
down to the D string and then to the G string
so it sounds like that and like I did the same thing with
that C chord so with that when I do that C shape and I start with my thumb on the
A string I pull it down A D G and then I use my pointer finger to play the beat and then I go back to the F chord same
thing and then with kind of like I kind of like you I use a couple of my fingers
here I go to the A minor shape and I’m plucking the A string D G and B
like this and then I go to the G shape and I do that same kind of thing this
time it’s the E I skip the A string the D the G and the B like this so those 2
chords sound like this together and I do the same thing on the C chord and those
are the A D G and B strings so those three chords sound like this and then the next part of the chorus
start the same way the F chord and then C chord here’s where there’s one little
one little difference here instead of just playing that C chord like that
there’s a little extra thing right here I use my middle finger on my right hand
I do the open B string and then the open G string so it sounds like this and then you go back to the F chord A
minor same thing as before G chord C chord
back to the F chord A minor G and you end on the C cool so I’ll play the last little bit of
the bridge and then we’ll go into the last chorus by Your stripes I am healed with one touch I am made whole you have spoken and I know that it is so in the storm You are peace and Your love
go You have spoken and I know that it is so You have spoken and I know that is so and that’s how you play It Is So and I know that it is so
