Anonymous Members Allegedly Unmasked, Involved in Westboro Baptist Church Hacking Incident

A quick note on Anonymous. You remember, Louis,
that the most-watched segment we’ve ever done on this show is when an individual from the
internet gathering known as Anonymous was on the show simultaneously with Shirley Phelps-Roper
from the Westboro Baptist Church. During that interview, the Westboro Baptist Church website
was hacked. This video received a million views within
24 hours on YouTube, it’s around 1.5 million views now, over 100 international media outlets
covered it. I was getting calls from places in Europe to talk about it, “Washington Post”,
CBS News, etc. Well, it turns out, now, that some Anonymous
members have actually been unmasked, and what’s interesting is this article… a lot of these
articles, including this one I’m looking at from the “International Business Times”, refers
to the member who was outed as it’s believed to be the Anonymous representative that debated
a church leader on The David Pakman Show. And these are two cybervigilante groups that
are claiming to be “calling out” specific members of Anonymous. And specifically, they’ve latched onto “Kayla”,
which is the handle that appears in a log, and Kayla is the name of a former Anonymous
contributor that gave a number of interviews, and again, according to this… or, rather,
I’m sorry, “Topiary” is the one that, according to this, was the person who was on our program.
The user handle Topiary has also garnered significant attention. The handle is linked
to an Anonymous contributor suspected of aiding the group’s attacks on the Westboro Baptist
Church. So, you know, I don’t know, people emailing
me about this. I don’t know much at all. We… I have no idea who the person was that was
on the program. All I knew was that it was the same voice that I heard on other shows,
so we went with it, the hacking took place, that’s that. So please, I don’t know anything
more than that. If you email me, I will just have to tell you all I know is what’s being
written. Louis: Right. David: What do you think about this, Louis? Louis: I think… I don’t think much about
it. Cyber warfare, it is what it is, whatever. David: It is what it is. Louis: Which is a term I hate. I don’t know
why I just used it. David: Right. Louis: But there you go. David: Louis does not like that term, but
using it relentlessly, at least on today’s show. Transcript provided by Alex Wickersham and For transcripts, translations, captions, and subtitles, or for more information,
