A Georgian Priest in a Divided Parish 1

On August 11, [2008], planes bombed us There were seven people in our house. Later, as we counted the places where bombs had dropped, 32 bombs [rockets] fell on our heads. It’s a miracle that we survived. The car was riddled with holes from a mortar before that. I didn’t want it to be totally destroyed, so I [managed to] put it behind the house during the bombing [firing of munitions], but the fire reached the fuel tank and, from there, the house caught on fire. The wind was blowing and the palace [in the Nikozi Monastery] also caught fire. In a few hours, everything that we had been building here for 14 years was in flames, [burning] beneath our eyes.
